Gethsemane – The Garden Restored
Scripture Alive!
Leader: How do we stand against feelings of shame? Shame feelings should lead us to God, who never covers us with shame, but instead covers us with Jesus Christ. Put on Christ.
(Finding Life, pages 116-117)
All: Stand in grace.
Leader: 17 He reached down from above me, He held me;
He pulled me from the raging waters.
18 He rescued me from my strong enemy
and from all those who hated me,
for they would have overwhelmed me.
19 When my enemies came for me on the day of my destruction,
the Eternal stepped in to support me.
20 He led me out onto a broad plain;
He delivered me because of His delight in me. (2 Samuel 22:17-20, The Voice)
All: Rejoice in hope.
Leader: 2 Jesus leads us into a place of radical grace where we are able to celebrate the hope of experiencing God’s glory. 3 And that’s not all. When our characters are refined, we learn what it means to hope and anticipate God’s goodness. 5 And hope will never fail to satisfy our deepest need because the Holy Spirit that was given to us has flooded our hearts with God’s love. (Romans 5:2-5, The Voice)
All: Refuse to listen.
Leader: Eve didn’t turn her back on the serpent, but we can once we recognize his voice.
All: Exchange the lies for truth.
Leader: 14 I will offer You my grateful heart, for I am Your unique creation, filled with wonder and awe. You have approached even the smallest details with excellence;
Your works are wonderful; I carry this knowledge deep within my soul. (Psalm 139:14, The Voice)
All: Look to God.
Leader: 1 I have found shelter in You, Eternal One; I count on You to shield me always from humiliation and disgrace. (Psalm 71:1, The Voice)
All: Know the inheritance.
Leader: 7 Many called you disgraced and defiled and said that shame should be your share of things. Yet you suffered doubly and lived in disgrace; so double will be your share, and with joy everlasting. (Isaiah 61:7, The Voice)
All: Shame is no longer our lot, no longer our inheritance from the fall in Eden.
