Central Women THQ continues to grow in 2017!
This summer we also welcomed Captain Janelle Gonzalez as our Territorial Multicultural Women’s Ministries Secretary. Read below to learn more about her and pray for her in her new and vital ministry.
Welcome Captain Janelle, we’re so glad you’re here!
From a very young age, Captain Janelle has taken part in women’s ministries and it started by often being a helper to her mother, also a Salvation Army officer. Janelle is from Panama. Living in a culturally diverse tropical paradise meant attending women’s retreats next to unique personalities on breathtaking beaches, one of her favorite places to visit. As a teenager, she moved to the United States along with her family. Janelle was commissioned and ordained as a Salvation Army officer in 2004 as part of the Bridgebuilders session and her journey continued!
Janelle’s exposure to living and sharing her faith within multiple cultures continued while serving for a short time at the Waukegan Corps followed by longer tenures at the Chicago Irving Park, Lawn and Aurora Corps for a combined 13 years of service before coming to territorial headquarters. Janelle has ministered with and to Scandinavian, African American, Latin American, Caribbean, Filipino and Middle Eastern women living in the USA while at her different appointments. She is passionate about missions and about seeing women from all ages and backgrounds having a closer relationship with Christ regardless of what stage in life they find themselves. Janelle has served on several mission trips in Mexico, Ecuador and Chile. Captain Janelle has a son named Nate with whom she loves spending time.
“If you knew me, you would know…” – that I love to dance and travel (…not always at the same time!).
“My favorite thing about the Midwest…” – Enjoying a good hot dog in good company! Good food and warm people are always a blessing for me to encounter.
