Rescue

Rescue

Yesterday, our Jr. praise band sang the song “Rescue” by Lauren Daigle. I love that song because it’s so personal! I’m sure she had someone in mind when she wrote those lyrics and it was written for a specific purpose. But it got me thinking…what do I need to be rescued from today?

In Psalm 18, David writes:

I love you, O LORD my strength. The LORD is my Rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my Rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation.

That is some serious imagery! It sounds like he is going into battle and every part of his armor is the LORD. We know David experienced God’s rescue from his physical enemies and wrote many psalms and songs of thanks and prayers of asking.

But looking at that list, which of those names describes how I need God right now? Or how I need to experience Him in my life?

Strength
Fortress
Deliverer
Rock
Refuge
Shield
Salvation
Stronghold

Maybe you need every single one of those names! Most of us probably haven’t faced danger in battle like David did…or maybe you have or know someone who has or is right now.

I personally haven’t faced the danger of death but I have faced other things from which I’ve needed rescue or shielding. Just last night I woke with anxious thoughts flooding my head and I had to stop and pray that God would deliver me from those thoughts and shield my mind.

And of course, I’m so thankful for God rescuing me from sin and spiritual death!

God is all of those things and so much more! He IS and He is waiting for us to call on Him and ask.

As you pray, call on His name. He loves you and hears you when you pray.
