Can you imagine being a single, female officer in the late 1800’s, serving in Kingston, Ontario and being labeled as the ‘most exciting preacher Kingston has ever had?’ This is the impact Captain Abby Thompson made at just 19 years old, and in only 10 months. She created such a stir with her dazzling personality and preaching that the Canadian Prime Minister himself was drawn to her meetings, later becoming a close acquaintance. Also during those short months, a local soap manufacturer started selling ‘Abby soap’; a yacht was renamed the ‘Captain Abby’; and the British Whig featured four to five reports of her activities in almost every issue. – The Salvation Army Women’s Ministries USA South
