Meet Alexis Johnson. Alexis is from the Sterling-Rock Falls, IL Corps. Due to the Covid-19 crisis, she is currently attending the Peoria Citadel corps. She has enjoyed attending Women’s Ministries programs in the Heartland Division! Here is Alexis’ story:

“I was 13 when I attended my first women’s retreat and I’ve been an honorary member since then! When I first started attending I came along with my mom, who was a member and leader of the Women’s Ministries program at our Corps in Sterling, IL. I was always the youngest person in the group. I enjoyed hanging with the ladies and hearing their life stories. I always felt very welcomed by them and more mature for having attended the program.

Once I became an adult I looked forward to attending and even contributing to lead a few of their programs. Monday nights became a safe place for me to talk about topics that my friends were not comfortable with at the time. Every week we got together and shared life. If for some reason I missed a week somebody would usually reach out to me and that made me feel loved. One of my favorite memories from these nights were our “Let’s make a meal” nights. Our group included ladies from different cultures and I was really thankful to have learned how to make all the different dishes. I enjoyed preparing and delivering “to go” meals for the ladies who were unable to make it that night. I’m grateful to say I’m proof that Women’s Ministries is for young women too!”
