“Before Jesus died He longed to share one last meal with His disciples. Knowing He only had a few days left; Jesus took advantage of the Passover feast to show His friends the full extent of His love for them. But this Passover was different than any other.
Meals in the Ancient Near East were far more than a courtesy, having much more to do with who you were sharing it with than the food itself. Sharing meals extended a bond of trust and deep friendship amongst each guest. It meant that you were swearing your protection and love for those who sat across the table from you.
