Do you ever feel overwhelmed when someone tells you that “God has amazing things in store for you! I can’t wait to see what He does in your life!”  Does that mean I amdirections always supposed to be busy and in ‘ministry’ constantly?  Am I doing enough? What if I only remain a Sunday School teacher for the rest of my life? Is that amazing enough? What if I don’t become the missionary you think I will and I am just a good neighbor – is that amazing enough? Am I letting you and others down because our (yours, mine, God’s) definition of amazing is different?
Why do you get to define MY potential?!
Ok, let your guard down and remember that of course such a proclaiming statement about your future comes from a good and encouraging place. But for some of us that declaration can create anxiety and even a complex that we need to ‘do’ and ‘be’ more than we are.
But please remember that the most courageous and meaningful thing you could do for Jesus might just be being a:

  • The reliable and consistent Sunday School Teacher
  • The calm and positive co-worker
  • The supportive/strong spouse
  • The faithful missionary
  • The joyful friend
  • The unconditionally loving parent

We all have a calling from God – that is equally amazing as the next faithful Jesus follower. As long as you are being faithful to the ministry God has set before you (friendships, small group, your spouse, your children) you are truly doing amazing things for God.

2 Thessalonians 1: 11- 12, 11 So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do. 12 Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. This is all made possible because of the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.
